Osteopath
Osteopathy was developed in 1874 by physician and surgeon Dr Andrew Taylor Still. He founded a system of healthcare based upon the goal to restore the body to optimum health with minimal surgery and medicine. Today Osteopathy is practiced around the world.
An Osteopath is a primary health care practitioner, having undertaken a five-year double degree in Osteopathic Medicine. All Osteopaths in Australia must be registered with AHPRA and comply with continuing professional development.
At Osteopathic Works we use a holistic, hands on approach suitable for all ages including infants and children, pregnant women, older people, manual workers, office workers and athletes.
Osteopathy Treatments
Patients seek treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including back pain, postural concerns, sports injuries, discomfort and changes during pregnancy, and strains in a newborn baby.
Osteopaths use soft tissue techniques, gentle joint manipulation, stretching and dry needling. We aim to increase the mobility of joints, relieve muscle tension, enhance blood flow and effect the nerve supply to tissues.
Over the past 14 years we have helped thousands of patients from Mitcham, Ringwood, Nunawading, Vermont, Chirnside Park, Mooroolbark, Park Orchards, and now with our new osteopath clinic in Croydon we can treat even more patients from Croydon North, Croydon Hills and surrounding areas near me.
“Our team is committed to helping you reach optimal health and wellbeing”
There are four general principles central to the practice of Osteopathic Medicine
The body has an inherent capacity for self-regulation
Osteopathic treatment assists the body back to health
Structure and Function are interrelated
Changes in the musculoskeletal system may influence or produce changes in other body systems
The Body is a unit
The human body is an integrated organism in which no part functions independently
Rational treatment approach
The body relies on the above three principles for total care of the patient
